This weekend I started reading a most profound book, "There Is No Me Without You" by Melissa Fay Greene (click on the link for more info). This book is about an unconventional foster mother in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (where our adoption agency's transitional home is located, along with orphanages they partner with), and the orphaned children (mostly due to AIDS) she has raised. Intertwined within the narrative of this amazing lady's story are also bits and pieces of Ethiopia's turbulent history, as well as tons of statistics and facts regarding the AIDS epidemic and the unfathomable poverty in Ethiopia.
Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down!! I felt inspired, sad, angry, bewildered.....and I have only read the first 60 or so pages!!
I personally feel this is a must read for anyone adopting from Ethiopia, as well as anyone who desires to have a better understanding of what exactly goes on in poverty and disease stricken countries....extremely eye opening. Okay, this is a must read for anyone who cares. So, read it!

What a fantastic book! I just began reading it again. I read it back when we began our adoption journey, and this time around, it is even more profound to me! Enjoy!

I completely agree! I love that book! I felt all kinds of emotions while reading it. My parents took it with them to Florida for the winter, and I was so glad to get it back when they returned. I want to read it again!

This book was life-changing for me. Before I read this book, I felt like my husband and I knew we were called to adopt from Ethiopia, but we weren't exactly sure why - and then God used this book to show us a big part of the 'why' for us. I can't say enough good things about it.

Loved the Book! I am even having some of our family read it; what are we getting into? :)

I have read about the book but I have not read it. Thanks for the post.
HI there, I found you all by searching Facebook for Ethiopian adoption! Small world...anyway, we've been home from Ethiopia with our son Josh since last August. I borrowed There Is No Me Without You from the library and sobbed my entire way through it. The pictures were especially hard. Glad to meet you, I'll have to spend some time reading through your blog sometime, but Survivor's on right now!
